So I have just finished putting the engine back in my car, and everything is working beautiful except for the wipers. They worked for a few days, but then slowly started to intermittently work, and now nothing. With the KOEO, I can hear a buzzing sound from my fuse block when I try to turn the wipers on. I pull the relay, and the noise goes away. I switched relays and fuses, nothing. With the wiper relay pulled it shows an ABS fault on my DIC. One time driving the car I was spamming the wipers to see if they would work, and an ABS fault popped up and the car downshifted and freaked out a bit. I'm guessing I have a short between a wheel speed sensor wire and the wiper motor wires since they are in the same loom. Wanted to make sure before I started tearing into it, any info appreciated!

You disturbed the ground connection to wiper module and abs, look closely at ground wires at pass frame area under fuse box where they join, or add a ground to those module grounds

Ok I will check the ground, but why does the abs work fine and the wipers don't if the ground is bad?

There are two systems that can fail on the wipers

1)The motor... if this fails the wiper arms will move freely by hand if you gently make the sweeping motion with them.

2) The wiper "Box" its the mechanical link and if there is a problem with it the wipers will usually be locked in position look for damage to the wiper mechanism as well

That is because the abs and wipers share the same ground at G102 at frame rail under pass side fuse box, while abs is only monitoring during normal driving drawing very little current from that ground, but turn on a wiper motor and the juices start to flow creating a lack of current so the modules will try and suck a ground through shared modules grounds depending on where the shared ground splice is bad

Ahhhhhh makes sense, I will check that ground this weekend, thanks! I did paint some parts of the engine bay when I had the engine out, I might not have scuffed enough paint away when I put that ground back on.

I cleaned the ground and put it back on with no difference, still a buzzing from fuse box and no wipers.

A while back, another member had a terrible time with his wipers working just as yours are. His were so bad, it would cause the engine to shutdown when cycling the wipers during some of his troubleshooting testing. By design, the ground wires that end up at the G102 grounding location (of which there are many), includes the low speed wiper relay, defog relay, crank relay, ignition relay, and the com enable relay. The above ground wires are all multi spliced together, and a single wire continues down to the G102 grounding stud. Other things that utilize that G102 grounding location are items such as your wiper motor and 2 ground wires from the EBCM.
Those multi splice ground wires are brought together at a point very close to the fuse panel. If there were a breakdown within or near that multi splice (and depending on the location of the breakdown, I'm pretty sure the problem you have (or even worse like the other member had), would be located at or very near that multi splice location.

Thanks, I pulled the relay, tested for power. I have power on pin 85 and 87a which on the diagram goes to ground. I jump the relay from pin 30 to pin 87 and the wipers move. Gonna go back out tomorrow and do more testing while studying the diagram better. I may have things a bit confused but I don't believe there should be power on pin 85 and pin 87a with trh relay removed.

Did you use a test lamp ? 87a will show voltage because its ground is missing.Remove underhood fuse box, remove connector X1 it will have a pink/blue wire in cavity 1 to identify X1. go to terminal 46 at x1 will have a black wire next to it and a pink other side of #46 splice a new ground to terminal 46 that should fix it There is a ground splice pack J 127 inside harness that prob got pulled apart, but a new ground on X1 at #46 will take care of your issues

Thank you, I read the entire other fourm on here about that fix. I plan on doing it. I tested my dad's g8 and there was no power on pin 87a and 85 since they are supposed to be grounds. I test mine and I see 10 volts. You're correct in seeing voltage since there is no ground. I will splice a new ground in for that wire and hope that fixes it.

Hey everyone, wanted to let you know that the wipers work again! The fix was to run a new ground for pin 46 connector x1. Thanks for the help and the information.
