Remote start question

I used the heck out of the search button but could not find an answer.

My question is, can the remote start timer on our G8's be programmed to keep the car running longer more than 10 minutes? I love the fact that the G8 has remote start, however it's becoming highly annoying every morning when I'm walking out to my car and it shuts off as I'm getting to it, and the car isn't warmed up enough to begin with.

I think 10 minutes is too short of a timer, especially now that it's getting awfully cold here in New England. I want to program it to run for 15-20 minutes before it shuts off.

Someone like GTPPrix might be able to reprogram it. But you can reset the 10 minute timer once per start by doing the remote start button procedure again.

Chris aka gtprix said awhile back there is no way to change the timer. Only way is to hitlock and start before the 10 minutes are up. But that doesnt increase the timer 10 more minutes after the time is up. Say you have 5 minutes left, hit remote start again, youll have 15 minutes.

I thought someone mentioned that you could, trick, the system into extending the time a bit by unlocking the doors and the re-locking them before the first 10 ends. Not sure if I read it right but that's what I thought they meant.

Isn't that what I wrote? Resetting the timer to 10 minutes leaves you with no more than 10 minutes left.

Yeah, but the question was can the timer be reprogrammed.

All,

Thank you for the replies. It's a little disappointing that the 10 minute timer can't be increased. I'll just live with hitting remote start again before the timer shuts the car off.

I thought maybe my remote was running low on battery power... I have the same problem. I'll be walking back to my car in a parking lot (parked far away from other cars of course) and I can't get it to remote start unless I'm about 100 feet from the car.

I have to admit, so far the remote is the only thing about the car I have a gripe with.

I dont need it now, but if I was working, it would be a convenience. I wouldnt call it spoiled though.

I have found that on 20-30 degree mornings, with a heavy frost (don't ask why it's not in my garage!), it does rather well warming up the interior, defrosting the front windshield, and it actually activates the rear defroster. A couple times I got in and it had already shut off. It was warm and defrosted.

I will agree, this should be adjustable, and if not, 5 more minutes wouldn't have hurt!

That reminds me of something else. When I get in the car after it's been running and put the key in, the damn A/C turns on! It's been in the 30's-40's here and it calls for air conditioning?? It's annoying to keep shutting it off every time I start the car. Is there some setting with climate control that does this? Maybe I'm just and idiot :drink:

So how many have got in the car after remote starting and forgot to put the key in and go and put it in reverse and its locked up and got all frusterated thinking what in the blazes is wrong with the car now and then realized what you did? I do that all the time, lol. Start pounding on the steering wheel and then it's like duh, thats right I gotta put the key in, lol.
