Your switchblade got recalled.

Parts for the fobs are real cheap on Amazon.

 

I see them there too. What I am asking is whether they use the same rubber pad though? Everything shows the switchblade style in pics. None have the style I have, but the rubber part looks identical.

 

Looking at mine, I can see that they are the same. I still have the original flip an fixed key fob versions an that touch pad is exactly the same. So even thou your pic shows the modified fixed key version (as per the recall from GM) its still the same push pad. But all 3 of my key fobs (2 flip an 1 fixed) will always remain in the original format.

Dorman 13682 is the one you are looking for. That's the one I used for my fixed blade.

So, I've always wondered... I have 1 flip key and 1 fixed blade for my car. Is that how they came from the factory, or did they come with 2 flip keys?

 

One flip and one fixed blade keyfob from the factory. The recall eliminates the flip keyfob. Purchased a couple of the Dorman's on rock auto and including shipping they were less than one new General Motors pad.

 

I just saw them on Rock Auto. So I will add that to my cart as I need to get a few things for the old beater van.

 

The rubber pad as well as the whole transmitter portion are the same. The flip key or the straight key is the other half of the assembly that clips onto the transmitter portion. Just be sure to get the right rubber pad for your transmission.

Don't buy the Ebay junk. Rubber is to hard and case doesn't line up to upper key section. You can get the whole bottom portion with new board in it. From gmparts last one I got was 20$.

Item #9 some dealers can get just the pad. I got mine with a large annual order for wipers, filter, and other items.

 

Rock Auto has them. So next time I place an order, I'll just throw it on the order. I believe it's a Dorman.

Might throw a few other things on when I'm ordering too.

 

I had to replace my rubber pad quite a few years ago on the flip blade. I stopped in the local Buick dealership and if I remember correctly, I was charged $8 for the part. That was so long ago, maybe the parts are hard to find now and cost more today.

 

So, I finally had to place an order with Rock Auto and picked up two of these (just to have a spare). Soo much nicer...

The original I had pictured above had gotten even worse...

 

Awhile ago, purchased a spare button pad as well since they were so inexpensive. Hopefully, they will last just as long or longer than the ones they replaced. The Dorman pads seem to have a flat/matte finish versus the semi-gloss/gloss look on the originals.

 

I noticed the same thing. And the buttons (pressing action), are much firmer than the other OEM fob I have that is normal (I.E. not damaged like the one I pictured above).

But yea, I figured that for the $3 bucks or whatever, I'd get a spare.
