Today is the car's first day on sale in Australia, so to be fair GM may put in some effort into marketing yet.

The G8 gained the DoD engine ahead of the Commodore so I wouldn't expect too much lag.

The industry is meanwhile continuing to take its consolidation to new extremes. I have unconfirmed reports that GM is heavily pushing the new Impala as a Caprice replacement in the Middle East. Good as the front-drive Impala may be, it's also the same as every generic FWD car out there. I don't like where this is going...

What pisses me off is I've seen ads for the Impala but none for the new SS. Not one TV ad or magazine ad
Commodore VFs just went into production in OZ last week. If they build up a little VF inventory before starting on the SS, there wont be any SS's built for probably a few more weeks. Then of course there is GM's statement that the SS will be built from orders. Until they are comfortable with production in OZ you probably wont see an ad for one.:wink2:

GM wants it to fail

I believe that GM wants the SS to fail. Even though they are going to raise the price of the SS above the GXP, GM is going to loose money on each SS sold or not sold. GM is selling the SS for ONE reason only $$$$. They made a contract to sell so many Holdens (G8s or SS) because Pontiac got cut they would probably have to pay for them even if Holden doesn't build them. Through AU/US gov't contracts and trades GM had originally decided a certain # VE (or VF) platforms sold in the US. Since the decision was made in 2006-07 to sell them over here the exchange rate has flipped. When I was in Australia in 2006 it was $1.00 to 0.72 US, so if a G8 would of been sold in 2006 in the US ($32k US = $40.96 AU) they would of been ahead. But by the time they were sold in 2008 the exchange rate was even, average SSV was $46k in Australia, therefore my GT as $32kUS that meant GM was losing $14K on each GT sold.

IMO GM has a contract with Holden to build so many cars, and they are using the SS as a scapegoat to finish out the contract. So if the SS has horrible sales and they don't sell them all (because they are still loosing money), they will probably use this as a way to get out selling anymore. Right now without Bob Lutz GM only thinks about one thing the bottom line.

agree with others...this will be an even worse failure than the bland uninspiring gto.

design design design.....GM, no one will buy a boring looking car, that's supposed to be a high performance sedan. plus the competition is ramping up their technology, motors and transmissions, and aggressive looking cars and GM comes with this? epic fail.

Now with GMs latest revamp to the Malibu to try and compete with the Fusion the SS now shares a front end design almost identical to the SS. Weak GM...weak.

...Guys...
The car we are getting here is the Holden Commodore ..Not... A HSV GTS.... the Commodore back home in Australia is just a working mans car and that's what we are getting ... remember you get what you pay for ...Having said that if we were getting a HSV Commodore we couldn't afford it // I bet the biggest % of us here purchased our G8's used because we couldn't afford a New one...I include myself in that last statement...G8 Owners were lucky that Bob Lutz was running Pontiac at the time and he had the car changed to look like a Performance sedan....makes me wonder if we will see someone put a G8 front body work on an SS to make it look as good as our G8's...what was the old moto...Body by GM..Sole by Pontiac....No one will be able to afford HSV after market items to upgrade there SS they are way to expensive , the hood vents on a GTS... Alone are $450:00 Each...which brings me back to that age old question...." Do you want a car like this ... Do you need a car Like this"...

I'm sorry to say you are wrong. I've looked at the 2014 Malibu and it does not look almost identical to the SS, the impala yes, the SS no.

I'm sure he meant Impala. Those two could be twins.

impala, malibu, ss, all basic chevy front ends...nothing special.

That's not totally fair: the same could be said of the Vibe, G6, G8 - all Pontiac front ends look similar. That's kind of what brand identity is all about.

I saw the SS and the new Impala at the Hot Rod Power Tour.

The SS in NICE in person. The silver on it just pops! Somebody had dented the fender right above the wheel though. :( The interior is sweet also.

Impala looks good too.

correct, however, the g8 has a much more sporting and high performance face than it's smaller siblings. chevy - not so much. all look very basic - blend in with the crowd.

Speaking of front ends...maybe it's just me but I think the new Impala front end is very well executed and looks a lot better than the SS front end. I also think there are basically two things that kill the front for me, that gaping whale mouth and the too large chevy bowtie. Lights, etc. are OK. First thing I thought when I saw the new Corolla...yes I said it...was that front end looks like that gaping mouth on the SS. I would be happy if they just left well enough alone and left the Holden front end intact. To me, it looks a lot better than the SS.

I took these pics at the Hot Rod Power Tour stop in Texarkana,Arkansas two weeks ago. I think the SS looks awesome in person, and the interior looks great! It was hard to get pictures of the car with all the people at the event. They had a massive turnout!

...Same wheels as on the Limited Edition Red Line Commodore....Down Under Mate ///

Looks sharp // I bet it's a real sleeper //

car does nothing for me. call me nuts. the front end looks like a malibu and the rest of the car looks like a G8 in different "clothing" needed to be cutting edge like the new Caddy's

Car looks like a Holden to me. This car will rock with the lt1.

Stop complaining already, it's an updated gxp.. If you want something else then don't buy it.

F--k, even the caddy's don't have an updated motor yet... The new CTS isn't even out. Holden will hopefully be given some new power next year. LT1 or ttv6... LT1 for me please
