Lowering springs require new shocks?

Are the original GT shocks still adequate when you change to lowering springs?

Sure, you could do it. But if you have any amount of miles on your car, you will want to change out your dampers. 50-60k miles and up I'd definitely do it, the stock shocks will have degraded significantly by then if they aren't dead already.

A g8 with 5-6 years on it will need new dampers for sure if lowering. You don't have to do it, but just know that the ride quality will become pretty bad. Bouncy bumpstop killer is what you will have to rename your car.

Ask me how I know...

^^^^I'm with The Yeti on this one.. I lowered my car on Eibach's with the stock FE2 struts for a couple months and loved the stance but was frustrated hitting dips on the road and even going up and down my steep driveway. Mind you the car only had about 32k miles but i ended up getting FE3 struts 2 months later so all was better :)

My fe2's were getting pretty rough at 16,000 miles. I'm switching to some new fe3's when I can finally get the car out of my garage. Kinda sucks because the stance is way better with the fe2's but I guess you gotta sacrifice some looks for comfort.

Fe2 are the stock struts for the GT and they are oil filled struts.

Fe3 are the stock struts for the GXP which are gas filled struts that are a little sportier.

Just to clarify, both FE2 and FE3 are oil filled. The FE3 however, is gas charged to keep pressure on the oil to better control foaming due to cavitation.

I put FE3s on when I did my H&R springs but the drop springs ended up wearing out those FE3s at about 24k miles. I could really tell the difference in ride quality. By 36k miles the rear end was super bouncy and I just didn't feel safe aggressively driving the car. Way to unpredictable. Also would hammer the bumpstops on the front end.

Stock suspension components just don't handle being lowered long term.

PPV's going in soon, but I am going to cut open and save my struts for the future. If I don't like the PPV's I will be ready for Koni's. If I love them
I might sell the FE2 cores
