I have a 09 G8 GT. Has anyone tried the Superchips F5 GM Flashpaq 2845, i think its there "new and improved" model. I found a shop to get a good tune, but my only mod so far is a VCM cai. I found other threads but none mentioned the Flashpaq 2845. Any advise would be helpful, I'm new at this.

Most will say go with a shop that can tune it since they can make changes specific to your car. Either way you go, make sure they tune the transmission. But, if you already have the flash paq, just make sure it's updated from sc and hook it up and load the tune to your car. For a canned tuned, it's impressive.

If going with a tuner or superchips, I,m thinking get the 91 octane tune, turn off AFM, tune for VCM cai, and 25% transmission torque. Is there anything i'm missing?

I'm sure thats true.... Speed limiter is about 160 mph? I had it up to 124 so far. I need to get it to Las Vegas Speedway and open it up!! Maybe after i get it tuned.

I left my afm on since the mechanics of the lifters doesn't change and I'm still on stock exhaust at the moment. Other than that and a Rotofab tune, that's the same as mine. You have to let it chirp second and third at least once.

I still have stock exhaust too, just not sure about having the exhaust too loud. Maybe Magnaflow Axle back 16883 would not be toooo loud?? Am i correct that if i turn AFM off i loose a little mileage, but gain a little mileage with the 91 tune??

it depends on how many highway miles mostly when it's just cruising along so it can go to 4 cylinders. But really, we don't buy these cars for the gas mileage. Fill it with 91 or 93 and enjoy it. as far as axlebacks, Magnaflow and Solo are the most common. I plan on Solo's as soon as I can save up the money.

I was originally thinking of getting Solo Axlebacks as well, but I thought the Magnaflows would be a little less loud. Still deciding on that one. Would i notice the AFM being off in how it drives with everyday stop & go driving with all 8 cylinders working all the time??

That,s a good idea. I was also hoping it would have more of a V8 sound at idle, or low speed too. But I probably need the Magnaflows for that.

I just tuned with the new one. I surprised how small the tuner is. Being conservative and really only wanted better shifting, I did the 87 tune (I use 89 gas), DoD Off, 25% TM ... wow! I should have done this when I first got the car. It COMPLETELY changed the way it drives. The annoying delayed shifting and hesitation with a quick off/on throttle is 90% gone. With 25% TM it lays down 10'+ patch with the 1-2 shift (and briefly kicks ESC on) and chirps 2-3 gear. Never did that before. The best part is it is very subtle under normal driving and definitely drives better overall. The trans shifting is worth the prices on it's own. I may try the 91 tune with 50% TM for a tank just out curiosity. BTW - I bought it on jet.com for $278 shipped.

Do you have the stock cai? I have a VCM otr cai and am hoping there is a 91 octane VCM tune available with F5 2845 Superchips, does anyone know if there is?

Does anyone know if i get a Dyno custom tune, will they tune the transmission separately for Normal & Sport mode?

#16 ·
They should be able to if you ask them to. They are generally assigned different shift patterns (e.g., X, Y with HP Tuners) with different shift time adders to make them feel different. The pattern for normal drive mode generally has more time added to the shifts to make them softer.

Thats what i was hopping for, so normal would be 25% with better shift point, and Sport maybe 50% or 75% with more aggressive shift points. So Sport Mode would really be Sport Mode.

Superchips accomplishes the shift firmness primarily by jacking up one of the main line pressures. A custom tune would be able to dial it in more precisely for each shift in terms of shift firmness and speed if they know what they're doing.

I have been trying to decide between a custom Dyno tune or just getting Superchips and doing it my self. I'm leaning toward a custom Dyno tune. It is really sounding like you get what you pay for from what i'm hearing.

So I'm thinking of getting a Dyno tune by a shop. Has anyone used Leading Edge Performance in Las Vegas. The web site sounds good, and they specialize in Ls engines. OR Frank at Revolution Raceworks also in Las Vegas.
