When is lifter tick bad enough?

As long as the dealer can duplicate the noise with ease, you shouldn't have any problems, and I mean to say they can pin point the issue as a lifter tick. Just like any other LSx engine, this one has a loud valvetrain as well, I don't mean to say you don't have lifter tick issues, some people have gone 100k+ miles with the same noise, some others just had problems earlier like you. Take her to the dealer to see what they'll say about it.

Personally mine has 86k miles, and knocking on wood, no problems so far, revving to 6200-6300rpm very early in her life until know. Bought her brand new with 10 miles on the clock. Mine makes a distinctive lifter noise from time to time on startups, normal it seems for things with DOD hardware, lol that's what the dealer said the only time I took her in to inquire about the noise 3 years ago, that, and they also took care of a small exhaust leak I had with some Kooks Mids I had before the LT's right at the manifold gasket. I don't baby the car, and so far, I haven't have any issues, but again, this is just a lifter clank, rather than the ticking for 5 min like the tick people report that may look like piston slap ?

Good Luck.

sweet thanks.

speaking of the third bulletin. I know our cars are supposed to be tuned for 87 octane, but i run 89 just to feel a little better, I ran 92 in my SS. But Last week I was on a long highway trip so I ran 87, I noticed a few times that sitting at a red light I had a bit of a rough idle. every few seconds it felt like someone was thumping my steering wheel, is that related?
There is a little bit of lope in the stock cam that you can feel at idle, and doesn't change with octane, also, G8's were not tuned for 87 octane, somehow this myth must have started back when people didn't know any better and things like Superchips handhelds or remote handhelds were the only tuning options people knew existed, i'm sure it comes from the premises that in the G8 manual is stated to use 87 or higher octane if you have the 6L engine, and that GXP's should run premium but can run 87.
The welcome booklet says the G8GT should run Premium, but 87 octane can be used. The booklet reflects the reality in a better way, although more people would read the manual first and think the engine was tuned for 87.

I know some would care less and will continue to use 87, their choice, but the point i want to make clear, GT's were not tuned for 87 octane specifically from the factory, GT's CAN run on 87 octane, which is different. i've explained why and posted details about it, if you can, run 91 or 93 octane with the factory calibration, if you don't care or think otherwise, just run 87, for GXP owners who won't let the wife drive the car because of concerns she'll pump 87 by mistake, let her be, the car will run on 87 in the same way most people think running 87 octane in a GT is what the factory intended with the stock calibration :)
