yes and no
the top connector on the side of the radio has video input as well as RBG input.
Which pins are the RGB? Can any of you guys that actually have the connectors post any more info about them? Dimensions? Any Molded in numbers? Close up pics? They have to be something that would be available from Mouser or Digikey. Upon initial inspection the main plug body looks like a standard "header" plug. The part that looks like it surrounds or holds the "header" plug looks funny.

funny that.. i thought you said the G8 wasn't capable of displaying video....

hmm i wonder how you did it?..??..

I don’t know how you guys figured G8 radio is capable of playing video. It is not the same unit and is not programmed to play video. And the programming has to be adapted or rewritten to work in the G8 unit...
Right, I don't believe he has a G8 radio or programming for G8 to make changes to it. Also, he was only offering a change to make video visible while driving. That's assuming video would work in a car while it's parked. I think it's all a bunch of crap from a person who just wants to collect the money and not even trying to understand that it's not the same unit. There are physical differences, not just on programming level.
The rear seat DVD system can be connected even right now, but it only transfers audio to the unit, not the video. The video is what the whole deal is about....
identical to my diagram i posted up showing exactly which was video and audio pins..

mate im not hijacking anything,

and its not just a mate.

im not some random guy trying to do anything.

I own a car audio shop in Australia and MY mate is the one that actually designed the system in our VE commodores and your G8's!

Thats why I just happen to know all these things and can do most of it!

Not just making this stuff up mate.

Anyway, not trying to start anything up, just simply stating I have been saying this from the begining and have been told by some people on here that it can't be done, when i KNOW it can!

Cheers,
Adrian

Those connectors are actually on the side, not the back. It actually makes life a bit easier, but I haven't found any model type information yet that's close to anything you can find info on -beyond what's been posted already in terms of which pins are for the rear input and such.

Sure would be nice if all we have to do is buy a connector that plugs in the radio and has a composite connector. You get that and we buy them!

I have a few questions for dede and/or NoLimit.

1. How does the radio know when to turn the backup camera on?

2. Obviously from dede's post this proves that G8's CAN display video AND while it is in motion (if you are backing up you are moving right?)

3. How about a list of part numbers and instructions for us who would be interested in this setup.

4. Can you have a backup camera and another external video source connected at the same time or would that require some sort of external A/V switching device?

5. How do you select the video source on the radio?

There is no sense in all of this arguing. I don't think NoLimit has tried to sell anything through the board since the first "issue" came up (I may be wrong though) He has just offered information even though he does own a shop and is not a sponsor I think it is ok for non-sponsors to offer input that will help us.

HERE HERE!!

Right on Hannibal.

Please get back to the subject at hand. If No Limit has the answer to this issue, they need to go through the sponsorship program and start offering something at deals to us.

In the meantime, I want to know what kind of connector was made and how exactly it was done. dede PLEASE answer the questions already listed on this thread. You can't just give us a tidbit of info and then hang us out to dry, we are all like crackheads and you just gave us a free fix..

Hook us up with some more!! :)

Well I emailed Blaupunkt and this is what i got in reply...

RE: Customer contact‏
From: Villafuerte Luis (CM-AS/SAS-NA) (Luis.Villafuerte@us.bosch.com)
To:

The unit does not have a specific model name because it is an originalequipment unit. Due to safety concerns there is no option to input avideo signal into the unit.

May be the guy is telling the truth because i saw the video of him backing up thats kind of hard to do if he's parked right. I do agree with dede its alot of money repair. However look into the Pioneer Aviv z2 it will carry everything and more for what your looking for that if you have a g to spend. Its a radio with a hard drive records cd right there on the spot so you can give it back to your friend plus, bluetooth, rear view camera alot that plus the navi is installed.

JHP (jhp.com.au DBA www.g8partsdirect.com) now officially picked up production and distribution of that item. Pricing is not finalized, we need to get proper connectors and finish product development. That product is expected to be complete plug and play.

We probably will not offer the programming to remove the video speed limiter due to safety regulations in the US and possibility of voiding warranty on the unit with programming.

Ok just to clear a few things up, I was only trying to offer some advice and help. Those connectors dont have a part number and arn't available here in Australia either, Our tech got them from overseas, not sure where. And we make them up, easy done.

Which allows a straight plug and play option. It wont auto swtich when put in reverse, you need to push the aux button to bring up the picture.

It is possible for auto switching but through programming, wont be available anytime soon though...

Cheers,
Adrian

Yeah, pretty much what he said. Those are not available for purchase but we still can get them ;) :gears:

Ok, have our tech here now. And just went over a few things with him. He has confirmed pretty much everything i have been saying, and there is no major difference in our units apart from the extra onstar programming in yours.

Pretty much the onstar is completely seperate and already enabled on your units, the VIM doesn't affect anything to do with that, will not damage a thing, is not tracable, will not reprogram or play with anything else in the car. 100% safe! on our units aswell as yours as they are identical!

Also, just for everyones information - won't be available though, the stereos do already have a composite 2 input for reverse cam which auto switches when put in reverse, but is not active (can be activated) - will be optioned on the next model for us.

Not trying to attack anyone or sell anything, just confirming the information on the spot as our tech was here.

Cheers,
Adrian

Are you saying the VIM will not be available for the US?

Differences between G8 radio vs VE radio .

It appears there are differences between the pin outs from the G8 radio compared to the Holden VE radio, see below comparison.
JHP own both a VE SS & G8 and we have checked the pin out for both radios and there are some differents.
G8 pin out in the left field & VE SS on the right field, see below link

I plan on taking my camcorder, mounting it to my trunk, turn the viewfinder so it face the rear window, then look through it. Anyone think that would work? lol

I am more interested in that wing. You got any side shots of your car with the wing? Like to see what it looks like. I personally do not think the stock one is aggresive enough.
