I would say the RCR 215/223 609/615 on a 113-114 LS would be the ticket. It comes ground on a 112 but to tame the idle just a touch I would see what he says about going with a 113/114 to make it sound stock.

This assumes you are doing a DOD delete. Staying DOD There are many choices staying around 215 that have .550 lift. The good thing is if later you want a little more rockers can be swapped to up the lift.

Do a Google search for Cam Motion, in LA I think. They are geniuses for cam grinds. With the tuning available if you go with a 114-116 LSA you can tune for almost no lope and have a great power cam unlike the old days of vacuum signal to carbs.

 

Oh, and always go DOD delete IMHO. Several have decent priced kits making it pretty easy.

 

Cam motion cams, RCR, and BTR are my top 3 for cams. They have performed very well in my own experience

 

Agree 100%! And we could go on and on about the so-so grinds with names like "Night storm", etc. that may make good top RPM power but throughout the curve will make far less power and Tq where needed. :driving:

Yes it will be cheaper as the delete kit involves valley cover, timing set, timing cover, etc.

You can get an excellent DOD cam from Cam Motion and the others in STAGEUP's post. (I would not consider any other cam grinder than those 3).

MPG should not have much effect, in fact a good tune should end up with even better MPG even with the new cam.

 

Straight up DoD delete? I don't think you'd lose all that much, but depending on how you drive I would think you'd definitely be on the losing side. Any performance cam will net more loss.

Going from stock where I ran an average of 18-19 on my commute, I run 15-16 now. I credit that to the 25 MPH speeds I drive on base (same as before) and low-mid torque I get from the cam, but it definitely is noticeable. Highway went from 28 max to 25 max. May not seem like a huge amount, but it effectively shortens my highway trip length by 30-40 miles.

I loved getting awesome gas mileage in this thing, and doing the cam made me rethink my decision; however, knowing I have fresh top-end parts in my 120,000+ mile engine has been good insurance.

 

by doing this cam will this pass the emissions test ? in Connecticut we have to test our cars every 2 years ,,gmonde

 

That will be very dependent on the tuners skills. Even pretty aggressive grinds can pass emissions with a proper tune having that in mind.
