I think that is the fear, and that it makes a lower ceiling from the inside. I'm 5'8" and my wife is 5'1", so the lower ceiling isn't a problem for us.

Mine has it and I am 6'1" and dont have a problem. The noise factor doesnt seem to be bad but it could be because I have always had one (sunroof) in almost every car I have owned. Mine doesnt leak. If you are looking for one, I wouldnt let having one or not be a deal breaker.

 

Mine does not cause any more wind noise than any other sunroof equipped car I've owned when it's open or closed. The VW/Audi style sunroof control is much appreciated also. I've also driven in heavy rain and no leaks at all.

This lack of sunroof thing is a bit of a mystery to me also. Most other cars that could be characterized as comparable would have sunroofs. On the G8 V6, it would probably be a commonly available option, but on the GT it would be either included or you wouldn't be able to find one not equipped with one. I love mine, although I don't really think of it as anything special since every non-convertible car I've owned since the mid-1980s has been equipped with one. Not a whistle or leak out of any of them come to think of it. It's the only way to get fresh air into wind tunnel designed cars reasonably quietly.

 

I def want one. It also makes the car look sharp when its inclined. Thats all I ever did was incline it in the summers..just so the car vents a little when its crazy hot out.

 

I wanted more head room and didn't want to pay extra for something that I don't use that often.

 

I'm 6'4" and while I do like a sunroof, I would rather have the extra head room.

The lack of sunroofs on a majority of vehicles has absolutely nothing to do with customer choices but instead had to do with Pontiac/Holden deciding in advance that not a single one of the first 888, or that more than 30% of 2008's buyers would want one. The ratio of sunroof equipped vehicles has improved for 2009, but still, in my humble opinion they would not have gone wrong by including the sunroof either as standard on all vehicles or at least standard with the premium package.

 

Actually a lot of it has to do with gas guzzler tax, part of the calculation is weight, and with the sunroof on, and the added weight, it puts the G8 GT over the edge.

So GM carefully balances how many G8 GT's come in with the sunroof to keep them out of the gas guzzler tax.

There was info posted on this site, or maybe another regarding this and the small amount coming in with sun roofs.

 

I've never owned a car with a sunroof, and originally thought it would be cool to have one. After I sat in a G8 with one, it seemed like it sat too far back over my head to really be appreciated while driving. (?)

I think I could personally go either way on the sunroof at this point.

 

I personaly like having the sunroof, I may not use it much, but its nice to have.

You really dont lose much head room at all with one, because of the way the headliner is designed in the G8. However, you do gain GOOD map lights when you have a sunroof. and I can live with losing the sun glass's holder.

I had a sunroof on my last two cars and found myself using them less and less. Also I did not want to spend the extra 1K+ for somthing that I did not use much. One other thing I got tired of trying to keep the outside of it looking new. The molding always fads and looks bad on a black car.

 

extra weight, extra cash, and I never use it.

 

Personally, I don't care about the sunroof one way or the other. My wife wants one so we'll get it.

 

I've had t-tops or a sunroof in almost every car I've owned so I wouldn't buy one without it when I was looking for mine. I like having the sunroof and I'm not worried about the headroom since I'm only 6'

 

LOL! I'm only 5'9" so I'd have to sit on a stack of phone books to make my head hit the head liner.

 

I dint care either way but got one without simply based on the fact that there was 2 stryker blue ones in my area. The one with sunrof was 3K more (dealership thought that V8 cars are selling well enought to want more than red tag) but I think I have opened my sunroof in the TBSS about 2 times ever.

Personally, I was/am tired of every car manufacturer deciding to ram a sunroof down my throat without my consent. Seems everyone is making them standard (i.e. Audi, BMW, Lexus) which irritates me no end, because I am tall and need the extra 2". I was considering a couple of Lexuses (Lexi?) until I went to the dealership and tried to sit straight up in a coupleof them.

For the person saying there is no difference in the G8, you are mistaken. I sat in two G8s right next to each other, one with and one w/o, and the one with was missing headroom. Every car I have sat in with a sunroof I have hit the headliner in. I had to special order my Trailblazer SS with no roof because I could not sit in one that had a sunroof.

Add to that a number of other factors for cars with sunroofs like: (1) ease of break-in (2) structural integrity compromised (3) the eventuality of leaks (4) etc., and I'll pass on the roof.

6'3" here....and I have seen WAY too many of them leak after a few years, not to mention motors going bad, cables, etc.

After being in the auto industry for 13+ years....no sunroof for me.

 

1. Headroom- I'm 6' 2" and have a longer torso than legs it seems.
2. Reliability- One more thing to leak or break down the road.
3. More wind noise than the same car without it...especially since my head would be right next to it.
4. More chance of squeaks and rattles down the road due to slightly less structural rigidity.
5. I'd rarely use it.

 

Ditto on that plus.

6. More weight.
7. More money!

I am glad that it was an option rather than being forced into it.

If I want the wind in my hair feeling, I'll swap cars with the wife and drive her roadster.

honestly, i don't trust GM like I did Toyota - I know they've come a long way and the G8 is amazing, but I don't like sunroofs enough to risk it

 

Wife wanted a sunroof...I've had sunroofs in most of my commuters...hardly ever use them. Potential for rust is a problem.

 

I got my sunroof for free since the dealer wanted to get rid of the car so I am not one to complain. As for head room I am 6'2 and have a good amount of room over my head still when im inside. Personally I would be more worried about it rusting then anything else since it seems like an easy spot for salt to lay.

 

This is my first vehicle in a long time without a sunroof. It didn't come with one, and I was getting such a great price.
I like a sunroof more in the spring and fall than summer. In the summertime it allows the sun to beat down on you but without the air moving like in a convertible.

I also feel it visually detracts from a sporty car.
