ok i dont know if this is the right section, but irene just came and we were pretty lucky on long island and got about 60mph winds, but a lot of flooding and the salt water got up to just below my door opening. my fault for putting a stupid nissan rogue in front of my car. nonetheless, the rear footwells had about 2 inches of water in em. i opened the door this morning and it smelled like smoke, so i thought my alternator was toast. i cant confirm it, but i think there is an electrical problem now, seeing as the seat heaters are constantly on, the car thinks its in KM and the doors dont lock, but do the 5 beep thing. im going to water down the footwells with fresh water and then hose off as much of the car with fresh water as possible and see how it reacts. i disconnected the battery and hopefully that will reset the brain and bring her back online. i feel so bad like i abused my baby but theres nothing else i could have done...the salt water makes the paint look like a grease pen.

That sucks about the car, but at least you guys didn't get hit by a cat 3 hurricane and just got a tropical storm. Trust me, coming from the east coast of FL and a survivor of 3 hurricanes in 2004-2005 that was not fun. Hope the car dries out.

i pulled about 3 gallons of water from under the rear carpeting and the foam on the back of the bench was a bit wet so its drying now. i let it sit for 3 hours and turned it on again. apparently the seat heaters are still on even if no key is inserted. the airbag warning light came on and wont go out. it starts right up and the speedometer jumps a little with the tach and i turned the engine off and it sputtered a bit and then belched and died... :/ hopefully it will sort itself out.

I used to be a total loss adjuster. I hope your GXP is going to be okay, but prepare yourself for the possibility of a total loss. I know it sounds crazy, but most states have very strict guidelines regarding where the water level rose to if it was salt water in determining if the vehicle is a total. It's usually a judgement call--if yours came across my desk I'd say it has a decent shot of being a total. It sucks, but you just can't always get all the kinks worked out when you get salt water in the car. :-(

That really sucks seeing that pic. Probably be good to get the g8 checked out. Most problems just don't go away especially when its water damage. I know from experience.

ok so the car is running alright but the seat heater lights are still on when the key is out of the ignition and the airbag light is on. still getting a little bit of smoke in the interior- anyone have any suggestions?

Please get your insurance company involved! The issues might go away here in a couple of days after drying out, BUT you will most likely have issues down the road. You've introduced salt water to your electrical system. It's going to start corroding things and you'll regret it when you have worse problems later. If it's not a total, at least let them replace harnesses, etc.

ok so now the car wont start- the parking brake light is coming on, the tcs off warning is on and i started it and after .5 sec it shuts off and says contact dealer. geico is sending a tow truck tomorrow..i feel like i just sat by and watched as my child got molested- i have the sickest feeling. luckily no one at all has said "its just a car" to me or i would have lost it. i think its just a body module- so we shall see. i took out the fogs to get the water out and cant get them back in with nose nubs- any tips?

trevgtp- WTF? What were you thinking? Do not start the car again. Contact the insurance company. If the G8 is like most cars the computer is under the seat. I hope its not. Let the insurance company handle it. Good luck.

What really sucks is that there's no way to replace the car...can't go out and get a new replacement. "Newer used" is an option at least but it's not the same as 'yours'...sorry to see that pic.

Man that bites...water, especially salt water, wreaks havoc on automotive electrical systems...was that flooding from a fresh water source or the ocean?
